A Joint Statement
Parallel Notion Network

Parallel Notion
is a widely distributed network of Web sites created to foster arts and communication on the Internet. Each site in the network is hosted and maintained by an individual artist. Each represents the work of all participating artists.

The network supports and promotes all participants by the efforts of the individual, and the individual by the efforts of all. I hope, too, that this notion might reflect the nature of the universal creative spirit that is the heritage of all artists, and all mankind.

It's all about connecting
Art is a medium so powerful, a painting of 12 inches by 18 inches can affect a nation 12000 miles by 18000 miles, a movie of 1 hour and 47 minutes can affect a whole generation for 5 decades. It's all about connecting. We as creators have been given such power as to affect the rest of mankind with a few drops of paint. Art is so powerful a tool that it should be created with care. The responsibility is so immense that an artist must learn to be sensitive to the world beyond his. It is one thing to speak and another to actually say something.

This to me is the essence of Parallel Notion, it is a continually evolving connection to the rest of the world that promises to say something. We as seperate artists connect to each other, tapping from each other's muses and connecting to the rest of the world. Connecting and caching our art/souls in hard drives around the world, and if we are lucky... some place much deeper.

An n-dimensional neural network
Humanity could be viewed as a neural network conjoined by phones, wires, light, high frequency waves: unrestrained stimulated electrons.

In that scenario Parallel Notion creates a consciousness of informatic worlds running on collateral dimensions, each one of them similar to the rest but not quite.
Like an n-dimensional web.

Art is communication
Although I have worked as an artist since the late sixties, I can't say that I am very interested if what I am making is called 'art' or not any more. Working with Internet has more and more opened my eyes for the basic function of art -- communication. For the artist who likes more than anything to experiment and to find new paths in his work, the Net is the right place to grow the art of communication.

Parallel Notion is an experiment in building a small open network, where artists get together in a continously changing exhibition. Each artist administers his own page and nobody knows when or how the exhibition is going to change; only that it will. I really hope you will enjoy the show. Have fun!
