A HYPERTEXT JOURNAL
An Internet-based travelogue courtesy of two artists with an interesting approach to real time delivery of material to the World Wide Web. Their creative and thoroughly enjoyable Web site, A Hypertext Journal, is an experiment in art, communication, and interactivity.

"...essentially a record of a four week journey through the Highlands of Scotland..."
Equipped with laptop computers, modems, and digital imaging and recording gear, artists Nina Pope and Karen J. Guthrie set out on a four week journey through Scotland, documenting their adventures and encounters in images, text, and sound, with daily updates to their travel diaries on the Web.

And there you have the gist of it, but there is much, much more here. From the original 'raw' source material (delightful reading), through creative 'post-processing' (in Pieces), and an impressive and intelligent analysis of the exercise (raising several points of interest for all artists), there is something here for every visitor. Highly recommended.

"It is a genuinely poignant place, but only slightly slightly sinister. It reminded me of some of Rome's ruins..."

"...rather than constantly waiting for the next version or upgrade perhaps we should be trying to participate as fully as we can now -- while we are still able to affect the development of this area..."

A Hypertext Journal
by Scottish artists Nina Pope and Karen J. Guthrie is a serious exploration of the Web's potential for real time interaction with a 'remote audience' (the real purpose of this project). More, it is a heck of an entertaining read and a fascinating glimpse into the spirit and creativity of these intrepid artists.
