12hr ISBN-JPEG Project
USA

If you have been online
for a while -- even for just a short while -- chances are good that you've heard of the 12hr and 24hr ISBN-JPEG projects. The project was launched on the World Wide Web of the Internet in late 1994. It continues even now, making it one of the longest running art projects of its kind.

At two images per day for almost three years... we're coming close to 2,000 images posted to date. And Brad intends to keep it going for another four years and perhaps even longer. Make no small plans...

"...posted/mailed every 12 hours... perfect trans-avant-garde memes for the 90`s! A continuum of minimalist masks in the face of catastrophe; conjuring up transformative metaphors for the everyday..."

"A post-rhetorical, continuous, apparently random sequence of imagery... genuine gritty, greyscale... corruptable, compact, collectable and compelling convergence. The voluptuousness of the grey imminence: the art of making the other disappear."
Artist Brad Brace
has managed to strike a chord with his idea to continuously publish new photographic images on the Web (and into the public domain) at regular 12 and 24 hour intervals. Is it the concept, the scale, the sheer ambition of it all that captures our imagination? Look in and see for yourself...

The ISBN-JPEG projects
are in the words of the artist, "classic hypermodern imagery", and perhaps an important contribution to creative exploration and future direction on the Web. Way to go, Brad!

With thanks again to Carol Wickenhiser-Schaudt, A&T 03/27/97, for more great Net Links and Resources this week.
