Free Web space
is yours for the taking. Look into these five hot Internet community sites to stake your claim in cyberspace...

Fortune City
www.fortunecity.com
UK

Ten megabytes free storage plus email. This UK based service can be a bit slow responding to North America, and file upload mechanism is a bit cumbersome. Worth checking, though.

Geocities
www.geocities.com
USA

Eleven megabytes free storage plus email. This is one of the first and best known services of the kind. File upload options are good. Fast and reliable service.

Spree.com
www.spree.com
USA

Unlimited free storage. No email. This is a rapidly growing service currently being upgraded. File upload mechanism is marginal, limited at this time. Fast/slow service.

Tripod
www.tripod.com
USA

Eleven megabytes of free storage. No email. One of my favorite services. Good file upload and maintenance mechanisms. Usually fast and reliable service.

Xoom
www.xoom.com
USA

Eleven megabytes of free storage. No email. I could not make the FTP file upload mechanism work. Fast/slow service.

All of these services
are free, but they are also commercial ventures that require you to fly banners or live with pop-up advertisement windows on your pages. Spree.com does it a bit differently... worth looking into this one.

The question...
what exactly is new in new media? -- has resulted in some interesting feedback from Zn readers. Here are two responses I feel offer a special insight...

David Knoebel is an American avante garde artist, sculptor, and poet. David sends a thoughtful response to the new media question. It is posted here as a standard text file:

Subject: What's new in new media?

David's Click Poems are featured in A&T 11/06/97 - MINDSCAPES

Pete Spence is an Australian experimental film-maker and poet. Pete sends his thoughts to Zn over a period of five days. Many gems here. Also posted as a standard text file:

Subject: thiscussion on new media.

The question remains,
and Zn readers interested to respond with their thoughts on the subject are invited to see Zn 98/05/08 What's New? Media for more information. Thanks to all for your email!
